Waters Memorial Special Award Classes
I was honoured to be asked to judge these classes in memory of such a consistently
successful breeder of top quality cavaliers and can I only hope that she would
have approved of my placings, particularly the first prize winners, which I
later established were a daughter and grandson of the fabulous Ch Maibee Make
Believe.
Dogs – a lovely class
in which I really would have been more than happy to give out 5 red cards.
1. Levy, Sedgwick, Cline & Puenchalard’s Pascavale Jacob – Loved
this quality 10 month blen puppy, who caught my eye on his first lap of the
ring, with his super balance and ring presence. Attractive head, correct skull
set with a beautiful, large, round liquid eye, stunning pigment and a soft,
melting expression that just oozes cavalier. Well made compact body, excelling
in neck, rib, spirit level topline and a tail set that comes straight off the
back. Moved precisely, the whole topped with well marked coat of good texture
and colour. This surely must be another star for these breeders.
2. Rogerson’s Rabymar Super Ted – A super 15 month richly coloured ruby, very unlucky to meet the above. Nice head proportions with flat skull, used ears to his advantage, gorgeous large dark round eye, and good pigmentation. Liked his size and firm, compact body, good in neck and shoulder, deep rib, level topline and tail, generous bone, but not overdone. Pity the rain kept us under cover, would have loved to see him move out in a large ring. Another, who with luck should have a bright future.
3. Bindelli’s Boatswain Camillo Cien Fuegos – 2 1/2 tricolour dog
with a mouth-watering, chocolate box head, set with dark round eye, good pigment.
Liked his size and shape, balanced, compact body and topline, lighter in build
than above. Well presented coat of good textured coat with bright tan. A real
toy spaniel.
Bitches
1. Callaghan & Todd’s Charwelton Angelic Pride at Callyspride –
Pretty bitch with correct head, flat skull, good ear set and the loveliest melting
expression emanating from large, dark round eyes, good pigment. Well made all
through, I liked her make and shape, firm compact body and clean outline. Although
not in her Sunday best, her coat is of a deep, rich chestnut. Gave her, her
first 1st at Leeds a couple of years ago in minor puppy and was pleased to see
she is fulfilling her early promise.
2. Fox’s Ricksbury Sitting Pretty - a blen bitch, with wealth of well marked coat although paler in colour than 1. Correctly shaped skull, pretty expression, nicely made, good topline. Moved out well totally belying her 6 ½ years.
3. Harbron’s Karbil Sleeping Beauty - Another blen bitch with ample well
marked coat, slightly stronger in head than above but again with nice eye and
good pigment, unsettled on the move and seemed a little upset with the thunder.
