Judges Critique

            I would
like to thank the Northern Cavalier Club for inviting me to judge their open
            show.
I greatly appreciated having so many well presented cavaliers to go over. Temperaments
were very good but winter noses, poor toplines & gay tails were surprisingly
            common.

            VD ( 9,5 absent )
            1. Grant’s Granasil Black Jack. Nine year old B/T. Handsome head with
big dark eyes and long ears. Slight greying on muzzle but wearing his age well
and showing very happily. Good length of neck, flat coat & good clear tan.
Very level topline & moved out well.
            2. Waters’ Maibee Lorphil Lagonda
            3. Martin’s Bevelmount Simply Red for Maltricia

            MPD ( 9,2
            )
            1. Gillhespy’s Lorphil Lost Love. A six month baby at his first show.
Small blen, heavily marked, rich colour, dark eyes & good pigment. Expertly
handled to maintain his confidence & enable him to show off his good neck
& shoulders. Well turned stifles meant he moved out well. He was still showing
happily at the end of the day. BPIS
            2. Crozier’s Korraines Disco Dancer
            3. Richardson’s Kringleholme Ovation

            PD ( 7,3
            )
1 Gillhespy’s Lorphil Lyphard. Nine month blen with a lovely head. Dark
eyes, black nose. Compact body with a richly coloured, heavily marked, jacket.
Good length of neck. Very neat little dog that used his ears well and showed
with style. I liked him a lot but felt he faded a little in the puppy dog challenge.

            2. Sheard’s Almondene Goodwill
            3. Crane’s Cranvarl Royal Star Struck

            JD ( 4, 1)
            1. Waddington’s Spindlepoint John Peel. Fourteen month blen. A slightly
larger dog that moved out well. Good turn of stifle, dark eyes , well marked
jacket, level topline and straight front. Happy temperament, showed well.
            2. Leach’s Clopsville Sazerac at Ouzlewell

            PGD ( Blenheim
            or Tricolour) ( 9,2)
            1. Crozier’s Korraine’s Jerome. A quality two year old tri. This
was a dog that I came to like the more I saw of him. He is not the most extrovert
of cavaliers but he showed well enough for me to appreciate his classic, well
carried head, lovely eyes, good reach of neck, rich tan markings, straight front
& good movement. He carried plenty of fairly heavily marked coat and presented
an attractive & finished picture as he went round the ring. BD, BIS
            2. Willey & Siddle’s Penemma Harry Potter
            3. Sheard & Price’s Almondene Endeavour

            PGD ( B/T
            and Ruby) ( 6,3)
            1. Lunam’s Mellow Moment with Flossybrook. Beautifully presented ruby
with a lot of gleaming flat coat. Lovely temperament. Good spring of rib &
level topline. I would prefer a little more length of muzzle.
            2. Bailey’s Aldoricka Utah
            3. Clopsville Sazerac at Ouzlewell

            OD ( 6,4)
            1. Dawson’s Nottus Hooray Henry ShCM. Larger three year old blen dog that
shows with great enthusiasm. Beautiful masculine head, large dark eye, good
neck, well laid shoulders. His long ,well fringed ears are slightly pale but
his coat is richly coloured & well broken. Moved well. Lost out in dog challenge
            because of nose pigment. RBD
            2. Lunam’s Flossybrook Total Eclipse

            VB ( 3,2)
            1. Hamill’s Craebeck Satin Rose JW. Ten and a half year old B/T with very
appealing expression. Her owner is to be congratulated for keeping her in such
very good condition. She moved with great enthusiasm showing off her flat glossy
coat and level topline. Typical cavalier temperament with her tail wagging all
the time. A lovely old lady. BVIS
            2. Mowatt ‘s Lorphil Lucianna

            MPB (11)
            1. Gillhespy’s Lorphil Lovalace Another lovely six month blen puppy from

!. Waters’ Maibee Gentle Touch NAF. Pretty little blen bitch, dark eye,
black nose pigment, well carried waggy tail. Liked her size, compact body and
happy temperament. Did not have the dog’s length of neck in the challenge
            for best puppy.
            2. Clarke’s Petasha Foxy Lady
            3. Waddington’s Spindlepoint Grace Darling

            MB ( 5, 2)
            1. Dawson’s Willowtump Athelas at Lupenex. Larger one year old tri. Well
broken with rich tan markings. Head needs a little more cushioning and hopefully
that will come with maturity. Well made with good length of neck & well
laid shoulders, she won this class on her excellent movement.
            2. Grant’s Granasil Classic Gold
            3. Gillhespy’s Asmena Angelique

Dark eyes, good neck & shoulders, straight front, level topline, well carried
tail. Such a well balanced, neat young bitch. Not yet in full coat which made
the difference when challenging the dog at the end of the day. BB, RBIS

            OB (7,3)
1.Shail’s Rossbonny Molly Malone JW. Small blen bitch, well coated, richly
marked and moving very steadily. Very pretty head framed by long ears. In very
good coat with good fringing. Compact little body There was a wonderful partnership
between this little bitch & her young handler. I just preferred the topline
& length of neck on the PGB winner when it came to the bitch challenge.
