The Northern Cavalier Club held its open show on Sunday 12th November 2006, at Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall near Selby. This was a perfect venue, a large ring, with lots of natural light from above, which showed the dogs off to their best advantage.

I was looking forward to this, my first cavalier club open show, and was flattered by such a super entry.

I found some fine examples of our breed for most of my class winners, and in a few classes, I felt hairs were really being split between placings.

On the minus side, there were lots of incorrect bites, some very small light eyes and more than a few poorly pigmented noses. A number of exhibits were very thin, with absolutely no muscle tone. Finally, where have all the soft silky coats disappeared to? I came across exhibit after exhibit with coarse, wiry coats, which is not at all desirable.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day, and would like to sincerely thank the Northern Club committee for their generous hospitality, and also to my two stewards, who did a fantastic job.

Veteran Dog– 1 (1ab)

Minor Puppy Dog 7 – (1ab)

1st Mr. M Spark - Sharvo Hal O’ The Wynd
Neat well marked Blenheim. Pleasant head with jet black nose pigment. Happy shower.

2nd. Mrs. L M. Gillhespy - Marigill Maiden Voyage
Richly marked Blenheim, with broad skull, very similar in head to the first. Just preferred the eye on1st.

3rd Mrs N Bloice - Scotlass The Fiscal.

Puppy Dog 5 - (1ab)

1st Mr & Mrs G Inglis - Craigowl Battenburg
Masculine Blenheim with broad skull. Moved positively, clearly helped by his super turnoff stifle. Good shower. Well presented.

2nd Miss N Tomlinson - Sanickro Knight of Honour
I loved this very stylish Tri’s body he had loads of ring presence, and covered the ring well. I just preferred the eyes on 1st.

3rd Messers rix and berry- Ricksbury Royal Valour.

Junior Dog 6

1st Mr & Mrs Bull - Ladash Bramble
Soft headed Blenheim, with super large dark expressive eyes. Marked just right with a well developed rib cage, another with a super turn of stifle.

2nd Mrs S Leach - Ouzelwell Lord Chamberlain
Another good shower, with round eyes. Heavier marked than 1st. Head just needs to develop.

3rd Mrs S North & Box - Jalesto Now I’m here

Maiden Dog 5

1st Mr & Mrs D Inglis - Craigowl Wylam
Masculine Blenheim, with nice large eyes. Heavier marked than I prefer. A little unsure of himself, so movement difficult to assess.

2nd Messrs Rix & Berry - Ricksbury It’s Chico Time
Fabulous eyes and the required silky coat. Nicely marked but rather thin body. This dog’s frame is the size I like he just needs to mature both in body and confidence.

3rd. Mrs S Smith - Beaudale Fields of Gold

Novice Dog 6

Mrs. S. Brooks - Moonvale Augustus
Another flashy but heavily marked Tri with a nice body both standing and on the move. Plenty of rear drive from the well turned stifles. Another young dog that needs to be mature in head.

2nd Miss B Costello - Bevelmount Barricello
I loved this boy’s outline and shoulders. He showed and moved well, but his eyes weren’t for me.

3rd Mr A Shone - Cobalatino Candy Man

Graduate Dog 11 (1ab)

1st Mrs A Jones - Timsar Mr Moonlighter

Soft headed Blenheim with a fabulous head and large dark expressive eyes, a pleasure to go over. Soft silky coat on a firm well muscled body of a good size. Has a lovely balanced out line, both standing and on the move. Tail held correctly.(this dog demands closer inspection, as soon as he enters the ring) Showed with lots if enthusiasm. A perfect cavalier temperament, I’m there are lots more exciting days to come. BIS. Well done.

2nd Mrs M Pascoe - Spindlepoint Nelson of Jadechar
I loved this boy. A good honest example of the breed. Has a fab rib and moved positively. He lost out to 1 on finish and eye size.

3rd Mr & Mrs Bull - Ladash Bramble

Post Graduate Blen. Or Tri. 13 (2ab)

1st Mr & Mrs G Inglis - Craigowl Ryton
Flashy Tri. with a good ear set and braod skull. This tri. boy’s head still has plenty to come.Nice bright tan face markings with dark eyes, and jet black nose pigment. I loved his outline when standing and on the move.

2nd Mrs M Pascoe -Spindlepoint Nelson of Jadechar
See 2nd in graduate

3rd Mrs L Gillhespy - Lorphil Lyphard JW Sh CM

Post Graduate B/T or Ruby Dog 9 (1ab)

1st Mr M Spark - Hazeldene Toffee at Sharvo
Best wholecolour head of the day. Broad skull, well set ear, soft cushioned muzzle, with plenty of under eye padding. Perfect tan and oh, those super soft expressive eyes, which are so hard to find in the breed let alone the whole colours.Just a perfect size. Looked good on the move even though he had left some of his coat at home in the shower. Res best dog.well done

2nd Mrs North & Box - Jalesto Now I’m here
I liked this sturdy Ruby boy, even though he was larger in frame than 1st. Had a good well muscled body. For me he just needed a slightly larger eye.

3rd Mr & Mrs Bailey - Aldorika Uriah

Limit Dog 10 (2ab)

1st Miss B Costello - Beauella Radzinski JW
I liked this Blenheim, especially when I put my hands on his ample, but not large body. His head was masculine without being over done. Had one of the few good tail sets of the day. Had lots of ring presence at one with its handler.

2nd Miss D Hunter - Spennithorne Justin Thyme Sh CM
Similar in outline to the first. Has a slightly better eye and looked good on the move. Unfortunately let himself down when he was standing.

3rd Ms A Rice - Almondene Endeavour at Alomroyd

Open Dog 9 (1ab)

1st Messrs Rix & Berry - Ellisianna crusader for Ricksbury
Super richly marked Blenheim of a good size. Soft silky coat with a large dark lustrous eye, surrounded by jet black eye rims and a super coal black shiny nose. I’m sure when his head finishes, it will be fabulous.

2nd Mrs K Sandalan - Arenkote Firedance JW
This Blenheim was built on similar lines to 1, except there was about 10% more. Absolutely gorgeous coat texture, just how it should be. Covered the ring with style.

3rd Mr & Mrs Bailey - Elmlin Edrick at Aldorika

Veteran Bitch 6 (3abs)

1st Mr & Mrs Hamill - Craebeck Satin Rose JW
This 111/2 B/T girl put a lot of the youngsters to shame in the condition department. She still had those lovely eyes that define our breed, very happy and showy, and obviously enjoying her day out.Hope I look as good when I get to her age!

2nd Mrs K Sandalan - Arencote Quickstep
This elegant Blenheim looked so regal, showing in fantastic condition, and strutting round the ring showing the young ‘uns how it should be done. Well done.

3rd Mrs Renaud - Ellenaud Willow the Wisp.

Minor Puppy Bitch 9 (3abs)

1st Mrs Boileau Bennett - Arashi Belle Of The Ball
This rather raw B/T captured my heart. Super head shape, muzzle, eye size and ear set all complimented by rich tan markings. When I caught her off guard she had a lovely shape both standing and on the move. I will definitely be keeping my eye open for this lady’s progress. I loved her.

2nd Mr & Mrs Patterson - Missy Elliot’s at Phrenchy
this little Blenheim girl was similar in shape to 1. Nice eye and head shape. Super turn of stifle, which always helps. When looking at the exhibit in profile if I’m honest, I do prefer a longer muzzle, but there’s lots of developing to come.

3rd Mr& Mrs Hindle - Ricksbury Venus

Puppy Bitch 6 (2abs)

1st Mr & Mrs Inglis - Craigowl Norah Batty
This stylish flashy balanced Tri was just what I was looking for. Broad skull with expressive mischievous eyes, correct length of muzzle, which I know at this age can be misconstrued as plain, not a bit of it, she is perfect. In profile she shows off to all that are able to see a perfect balance between length of leg and length of back. No sign of those horrible short legs and short noses that seem to be everywhere these days. Novice breeders and exhibitors please note this is the correct cavalier shape! Had she have had a little more coat, I’m sure she would have got more than BPIS, well done.

2nd See 1st Minor Puppy.

3rd Messrs Rix & Berry - Ricksbury Royal Empress

Junior Bitch 5 (1ab)

1st Mrs Beetham - elizasholly Caras Pride
Feminine Blenheim with elegant head, absolutely super large lustrous eyes. Well marked. Was a little apprehensive and could do with a little more condition.

2nd Mr & Mrs Bull - Ladash Bryony
I loved the outline and shoulder placement on this Blenheim girl. Showed very well, but not the head for me.

3rd Mr & Mrs Tranter - Johnto Penny Darling

Maiden Bitch 14 (3abs)

1st Mrs D Whitfield - Bevelmount Madelaine

Super, sound Blenheim girl. Showed in tip top condition, plenty of furnishing which complimented the picture. She had a broad flat skull, with large eyes.
A good front and neat turn of stifle, moved positively, similar in make to her sire.

2nd Miss B Costello - Beauella Nine to Five
Very similar in size and outline to 1, but hasn’t got the eye, or the finish. Very well handled, as with all this exhibiters exhibits.

3rd Mrs Gillhespy - Lorphil Luna Lovegood

Novice Bitch 9 (4abs)

1st Mr & Mrs Bull Ladash Bryony
See 2nd in Junior

2nd Mrs Tranter - Johnto Forever Amber
This raw Blenheim had super eyes. Just needs time to finish. Stricter handling will improve her chances. By the time they are out of puppy, they should really be behaving themselves.

3rd Mrs & Mrs Tranter - Johnto Penny Darling

Graduate Bitch 10 (5 abs)

1st Miss D Hunter - Spennithorpe Just A Rose
Nice type Blenheim with good shoulders and outline. Held a level top line. Looked good both standing and on the move. Could have been a little better presented.

2nd Mr & Mrs Bailey - Aldronika Yolande
preferred the eye on this one, but hadn’t got the overall finish of my first. Head needs to fill a little.

3rd Mr & Mrs Scanlon - Barcris sparkling Surprise for Brantwood

Post Grad. Blenheim or Tri. bitch 10 (5abs)

1st Mrs Wilson - Willow Joella
Well marked Tri with a neat outline and a beautiful soft silky coat. Nice rich face tan marking, but could have done with more of it. Very well presented.

2nd Mr & Mrs Bull - Ladash Bryony
See 2nd in Junior

3rd Mr & Mrs Scanlon - Arencote Flame

Post Graduate B/T or Ruby Bitch 3

1st Mrs D. Whitfield - Alberica Focus on Red
Elegant Ruby with a classic shaped head, broad skull with good ear set. Well off for coat. Moved positively round the ring. I loved this girl’s elegant neck flowing from her well set shoulders. Reserve best bitch. Well done.

2nd Mrs smith - Beaudale Quite Contrary JW
Another typey Ruby with fabulous eyes. Moved well, but not so well off for coat as 1. Even though she had nothing to hide.

3rd Mrs North & Box - Rosscrea Gabrielle with Jalesto.

Limit Bitch 4 (1ab)

1st Mr & Mrs Hindle - Ellisiana Shan Tung
Showy Blenheim girl, with the most feminine elegant head and super eyes. Perfect coat colour and silky texture. Showed herself off well.

2nd Mrs Crane - Spindlepoint First course for Cranvarl
Similar in type to 1, with a little more substance. Nice typey useful girl. I just preferred the finish on 1.

3rd Mrs Mowatt - Asmena Kassia

Open Bitch 5 (2ab)

1st Mr & Mrs Paterson - Phrenchy Pollyana
Very difficult to decide between these two girls. Probably the hardest decision of the day. There were points I liked and disliked about both. This petite Blenheim girl was shown to perfection, even though there is not much of her. What there is, is quality. Good eye with proud neck and shoulders. Nicely marked with good ring presence. RBIS. Well done.

2nd Mrs. D. Whitfield - Beauella Kasino at Bevelmount J.W.
I loved this girl a lot in both size and shape, well cushioned foreface with a gentle expression and plenty of furnishings. Put down to perfection. Looked good on the move both fore and aft. Well handled I just preferred the eye on 1st .

Brace 2 (1ab)

1st Mrs N Bloice.
