Special Award Classes
Thank you
to the Northern Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Society for giving me the opportunity
to judge the Special Award Classes at their Championship Show held in Stafford,
and to the exhibitors for a marvellous entry.
The weather was kind and as such we were able to make the most of the outdoor
ring, allowing the Cavaliers to show off their active and sporty side of the
breed to their full potential.
My ring steward was Mr Malcolm Spark who must be congratulated for keeping the
ring flowing and ensuring all exhibitors were able to move between rings with
no disruption to the main judging.
Puppy Dog/Bitch
1st Maclaine’s Lochbuie Giovanni - A well balanced Ruby dog with large
round dark eyes and a level top line. Moved freely around the ring with plenty
of drive from the rear, showing off his well set on tail. He had a perfect scissor
bite and the gentlest of expressions.
2nd Surman’s Harana Siouxsie Sioux - This Black and Tan bitch presented
with raven black coat complete with correct tan markings. He was short coupled
with good spring of rib and moved freely around the ring. A lovely gentle expression
a happy little chap. Very little between my first and second, I just preferred
the movement of my first.
Graduate Dog/Bitch
1st Kynaston’s Granasil Von Trap – A super Black and Tan dog with
a raven black coat. He caught my eye as he entered the ring and he did not disappoint
me. He had the most wonderful top line and tail set which he showed off as he
elegantly moved around the ring with plenty of drive from behind. He had the
most melting and gentle expression looking at me with his large round dark eyes
and well filled face. He had good spring of rib and was well boned. Super dog.
2nd Maclaine’s Pennygown Ticket to Ride – A lovely well broken Blenheim
girl in full coat with large round dark eyes. Well balanced with gentle expression.
She was short coupled with well laid back shoulders, good spring of rib and
well-turned stifles. She showed off her rich chestnut coat as she flowed around
the ring, very attentive to her owner. She was a very close second.
Open Dog
1st Hunter’s Aust CH Spennithorne Dream Thyme (Re Imp) - This Tri Coloured
boy was presented in full coat, his gentle expression was framed by long high
set ears with plenty of feathering. He had moderate bone with good turn of stifle,
a level back and good spring of rib.
2nd Kynaston’s Granasil Golden Nugget - A Ruby boy with good neck and
shoulders and turn of stifle. His face was well filled with large dark eyes
spaced well apart. He moved freely around the ring showing off his level top
line, again very attentive to his owner. I just preferred the melting expression
of my first.
